                      Message from the Permanent Representative

It is with great joy that I warmly welcome you to the official website of the Permanent Mission of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations in Geneva.

The Permanent Mission of the United Republic of Tanzania in Geneva is a purely multilateral station whose mandate covers all United Nations organs, specialized agencies and other international organizations based in Geneva, as well as those based in Vienna, Austria. It also covers the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) which is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

So far, the Mission does not have any bilateral accreditation, not even to Switzerland, given its extensive multilateral mandate. However, plans are underway to have multiple accreditations, i.e. both multilateral and bilateral so as to facilitate smooth interaction between the UN system, the Swiss Government and the Government of Tanzania.

The website provides you with a wide range of information on our activities at the United Nations. It also tells you Who is Who at the Mission. Equally important, the website gives you Tanzania’s Policy stance at the United nations through several statements and positions on a host of agenda items of the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, the WTO, ECOSOC, the UNHCR, UNCTAD, the South Center, as well as other activities related to Tanzania’s accreditation to the United Nations at UN Office in Vienna, Austria and CFC offices in Amsterdam.

You will also find a number of links to other useful websites, including links to other official website of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which provide you with a wide spectrum of links in Tanzania and our Embassies and Missions abroad. A link to the United Nations system will also be provided.

Thank you for visiting our website. And, once again, welcome to Tanzania.

Modest Jonathan Mero

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,
Permanent Representative of the United Republic
Of Tanzania to the United Nations, Geneva
